Where does your voice go when AI helps write your MBA essay?
Where does your voice go when AI helps write your MBA essay? Applicants drafting round 2 essays ask it in different forms, whether it is if AI is worth using at all, if the finished essay still sounds like them, or what an admissions committee notices when it does not. Behind each version sits the same difficulty: it is hard to judge your own voice from inside your own draft.
This session goes through what happens to an applicant’s voice when AI is part of an essay, and what a committee notices when that voice goes missing.
Some candidates use AI to get a first draft down and revise until it is clean. Others avoid it entirely out of concern for their voice. And many cannot say, once the essay is finished, which sentences are theirs. The distance between an essay that is clear and an essay that sounds like the applicant is where voice goes missing without the applicant noticing.
This session is designed for round 2 and future-cycle candidates who are writing essays now and want to understand what their drafts are showing an admissions committee.
During the session, we will discuss:
- What an admissions committee is looking for in an essay beyond clear writing, and where an essay that AI helped write can lose the applicant’s voice.
- Why a clean, well-organized essay and an essay that sounds like the applicant are different things, and what a committee gets from each.
- What a round 2 applicant should weigh about AI while the essays are still being written.
Susan Berishaj, founder of Sia Admissions, will go through what a committee notices when an applicant’s voice goes missing and where applicants misjudge their own drafts.
