Which R1 Candidate Are You Right Now And What the Next 4 Months Actually Require

Most candidates working through their MBA Round 1 strategy feel like they have a handle on where they stand. The GMAT is close or done. They know the schools they want. The goals make sense to them. Summer feels like the right time to get serious about essays.

That picture is accurate for some of the prospective MBA candidates. For a lot of them, it isn’t because the things that actually determine how a committee reads your file aren’t visible from inside your own preparation. You can spend months researching schools, drafting goal statements, reading everything published about what top programs want, and still not know whether your goals will convince the admissions committee, whether your background creates a differentiation problem or a credibility problem, or whether the recommenders you’re planning to ask can actually write the kind of letter that moves a committee.

Those aren’t essay questions. They don’t show up on any application form. And by the time portals open in July and August, you’re executing whatever strategy you built — or didn’t build — before that point.

This session is about figuring out where you actually stand right now. That means what your specific profile position means for how the next four months need to unfold. What the candidates who come out of R1 with the outcomes they wanted are doing differently right now. And what it takes to move if you’re not there yet.

We’ll cover what separates a candidate who’s genuinely positioned from one who’s busy, what the strategic decisions are that have to happen before essay season opens, and how to assess honestly whether what you’re doing right now is the work that’s actually going to matter.

If you already have a sense of where you stand and you’re ready to talk through whether working together makes sense, a consultation call is the right conversation for that.

If you want to know specifically where your profile stands — what’s working, what needs attention, and what your target programs are going to require from you given your actual background — a Profile Evaluation is the starting point. It’s written feedback from our founder, Susan Berishaj, that helps you identify where you stand before you’ve spent the summer working from assumptions that haven’t been tested.
